“Strategic Technologies - Connecting Minds - Creating Innovation”
The 19th Science and Technology Conference 2025” is co-organized by VNQuantum, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT – VNU-HCM), and partner institutions.
This year’s conference brings together leading experts from Vietnam and abroad to share cutting-edge research, introduce innovative initiatives, and foster international collaboration across strategic technology clusters: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Quantum Technology, Semiconductors & 6G, and Next-Generation Renewable Energy.
✨ Plenary Session - “Strategic Technology Clusters”
🕓 08:00 - 12:00 | Auditorium A5
He is currently a Professor and Associate Department Head of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North Carolina State University (NC State). He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University (1998). His research focuses on core areas such as quantum computing; high-performance parallel system architectures; distributed systems. Prof. Byrd has made significant contributions to the development of mechanisms for optimizing internal communication in parallel systems, as well as the integration of quantum solutions to enhance the efficiency of computation and big data processing.
Tony Ha is a Senior Research Scientist & Deputy Department Head of Advanced Optical Technology at the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), A*STAR, Singapore. He earned his Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and previously obtained a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from KAIST, South Korea. Dr. Ha leads the “Novel Light Source (NLS)” group at IMRE, specializing in the study of metamaterials to develop high-efficiency light-emitting devices such as LEDs, nanolasers, optical sensors, as well as strong light-matter interactions, such as exciton-polaritons.
He is a Vietnamese AI scientist with extensive international experience and strategic influence. He is currently the Vice President of Technology at Qualcomm Vietnam, following Qualcomm's acquisition of the Generative AI division from VinAI. Dr. Hung previously served as the CEO and Founder of VinAI, where he established it as one of the leading AI research organizations in Southeast Asia. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Curtin University (Australia) at the age of 25. Before returning to Vietnam, he held long-term positions at prestigious research centers, including SRI International (on the CALO project, a precursor to Siri), Google DeepMind, Adobe Research, and Nuance. Dr. Hung has contributed to nearly 100 scientific research publications and holds numerous international patents. In his role at Qualcomm, he is responsible for setting the strategic direction for AI research in Vietnam while also contributing to the company's global AI initiatives.
✨ Panel Discussion - “VNQuantum Summit”
🕓 14:00 – 17:30 | Auditorium C5
Heis currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Software Engineering (CCSE) at Kennesaw State University (KSU) in the United States. Prof. Tu serves as the Director of the "Next-generation Computing and Network Systems" (Next-CNS) Lab at KSU. His research direction focuses heavily on network systems, quantum computing and quantum networks. He previously received funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for a project to build a comprehensive framework for computing and networking systems in the "quantum era."
Dr. Laura Caune is a leading expert in the field of Quantum Error Correction (QEC). In a landmark project, she led the real-time, ultra-low-latency error correction experiment on Superconducting qubits, utilizing an FPGA decoder deeply integrated into the quantum control system. At Riverlane, Dr. Caune is involved in developing the real-time QEC decoding platform, contributing to shaping the future of resilient and efficient quantum computing.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tan Thi is a faculty member at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and a core member of the VNQuantum Network, where he contributes to national quantum education and research initiatives. His work focuses on quantum algorithms, variational quantum optimization, and applications of quantum computing in data processing and modeling. He is actively involved in promoting quantum technology adoption within academia and industry in Vietnam.
